I wanted to remind everyone of the importance of maintaining our most important asset, the baseball fields.  As many of you have already noticed there has been signficant work and investment in our fields during the off season.  To keep our fields looking "Opening Day" new I wanted to share with the whole league our field maintenance rules.  Read them carefully as all of them are important.  If you have any question don't hesitate to ask.


1.   Do Not Pitch Batting Practice from the Grass Area between Home and the Pitcher’s Mound.   These areas have been recently re-sod and cleats and clay will kill this grass. Pitching batting practice from the clay on the front of the mound is acceptable.  Failure to follow this rule could result in loss of field privledges. 
2.   When raking the field do not rake towards the grass. Rake base to base.(Why because when raking toward the grass you force clay mix onto the grass and over time it will kill the grass and  lips will form around the infield)
3.   Grooming Pitcher’s Mound – rake dirt up towards pitcher’s plate (rubber) to help maintain mound height/shape. Form level area in front of pitcher’s plate. Use tamper (if available) as required to compact toe-hole and landing area.
4.   After each game and practice fill in the holes. (pitchers mound, batters box, the bases) (This will help the next day when getting field ready for games. Especially when it rains).
5.   After rain you should show up at the field at least an hour before you normally do. (ON WEEKENDS EVERYONE WHO IS GOING TO USE THE FIELD THAT DAY SHOULD SHOW UP AND GET IT READY FOR THE DAY)
6.   No Brooms allowed on fields (DO NOT PUSH WATER ONTO GRASS YOU ARE FORCING DIRT ONTO THE GRASS AS WELL AND THIS WILL FORM LIPS AROUND THE INFIELD AND WILL KILL THE GRASS)
7.   Keep field clean and dugouts clean, pick up after yourselves. Do not leave any trash in the dugouts, fields or the stands.

TO MAKE ALL OF THIS WORK ALL MEMBERS OF THE RIDGEFIELD BABE RUTH FAMILY WILL HAVE TO WORK TO MAKE FIELDS PLAYABLE
